Which nose spray is better for allergies? Nasacort or Astelin ...
There is no easy answer to this question. Firstly, Nasacort Astelin and work differently. Nasacort and Flonase are both steroid sprays. They work by reducing inflammation of the sinuses. Astelin is an antihistamine. The over-the-counter sprays, such as Dollar General, should be used for up to three days. They open your passages well, but continuing to use, you get a "rebound" effect and it will be necessary to continue to use them, basically, they are addictive. Regarding the options first go, it is trial and error. What works for one may not work as well for another.Ask your doctor which one he recommends, and start there. If this does not work well for you, your doctor will probably try you on another. Interestingly, these drugs should generally be used for a couple of weeks before maximum benefits are achieved.
In its way, Maria is correct. All nasal sprays (12 hours) contain the same active ingredient: Oxymetazoline HCl, and all drugs against allergies OTC contain the same active ingredient: Dyphenhydromine HCl. (also the same active ingredient in most "sleeping pills") Knowing this, simply choose the cheapest. Why pay for a brand name?
The colloidal silver in a spray is the best thing to have around expecially if you are getting frequent sinus infections. It will rid you of one of these. My husband used to have sinus infections quite often and when he began using the spray colloidal silver at the first signs of it would go away. Now, he has not had one in over a year. I prefer a bit of regular old Flonase allergies. It tends to work best for me. Yes, it tastes horrible down the throat, but many of them are not pleasant. Colloidal silver is tasteless, and it is quite natural in order not to hurt you at all.Safe for when you are pregnant, for newborns, pets, etc. Plus it is good all around for viruses, cuts, sores, ear infections, eye infections, and the list continues. And no, it does not turn you blue. The man who turned blue was also raised its own concentrates and drinking a daily cargo of over 14 years-hummm wonder why why it turned blue. leave these things to the professionals. The colloidal silver you get is completely safe, low dose and you do not use it all the time once in a blue moon when you need it. Anyhoo, hope you find something that works for you....

*ASTELIN* Is this an allergic reaction? | Q&A Blog
I went to see my doctor yesterday because i had very severe pain in my ear.. and he told me that i had some congestion on my ear .. so he gave me a nasal spray called Astelin… and i used it last night and i started to have itchy arms, legs, neck and chest.. but it lasted like 15 minutes and then it went away… then today i used Astelin again.. and like 10 minutes after i started to have the same thing.. itchy arms, neck, chest legs.. and i saw that there were some big hives.. but they dissapeared about 20 minutes later….right now i don’t have it amy more!!! …… is this an allegic reaction or what?? i keep calling my doctor but he is not answerint and i cant’ leave him a message…his aswering machine doesn’t let me.. what should i do.. ?
Stop using it. This sounds just like an allergy. I used it with no problems. If your doctor doesn’t answer his phone, call the drug store.
What you are having is not listed as a side effect, but every medication I take says to stop if you have itching and hives.
Call the drug store. If it is closed, call any 24 hour Walgreens. They will be able to give you advice and give you some suggestions to handle the pain in your ear.
He is giving you Astelin because your nasal congestion is causing your ear to hurt.
It sounds like an allergic reaction, yes. STOP USING THE SPRAY, at least for the moment. If it still bothers you even when you aren’t using it then i would go to A&E (hang on are you in america? what’s it called there…the emergency room?) but if it only bothers you when you use it then stop using it until you can get through to your doctor. Meanwhile you can use a medical healing cream thing, sudocrem, for example, to help soothe your skin while you wait. Hope this helps!!
I would stop using the medication. It does sound like an allergic reaction. You should be fine if it does go away as you said. But do not continue using the medication until you talk to your doctor. If you are not getting relief, you can go into the emergency room, they will see you, and give you a different medication. I hope you feel better.

If I've had Tachycardia in the past can I take Astelin nose spray?
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
I went to my doctor for allergies and sinus trouble. Why did he put me on 2 nose sprays? Astelin & Nasacort? ?
What is the difference, and what are they supposed to do?? And my doctor also said I would find a beekeeper in my area for eating honey and pollen out of the cage bee! Have you ever heard such a thing?
I worked for a group of 130 doctors and I have never heard anything about bees. Seems a bit dangerous for me! I was prescribed one or the other but not both simultaneously. I am sure that your doctor has a reason, but I do not know why the two steroids. I did not Astelin, it gave me bad headaches. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor or find a new one.
Which nose spray is better for allergies? Nasacort or Astelin?
I also have bad sinuses too. I seem to get sick all the time with cough sore throat etc.....which one would be more helpful?
Thanks!
My doctor has free samples to give me...Just seeing which one works best.

VICKS VAPORUB...TRY IT, IT WORKS
Try this "grandmother's remedy". Feel better soon.
I wish I'd known this when my family was young during winter
colds and coughs. I am going to try it myself. Share with young parents.
Isn't life strange? When we had a lecture on Essential Oils,
they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic
on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything
from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've
never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although
the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't
sure why.
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found
out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet
at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep
coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of
relief.
Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even
very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely
soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I heard the head of the
Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their
scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of
prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like
acupressure.
Just happened to tune in A.M.Radio and picked up this guy
talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to
the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. Using Vicks on the feet was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for
children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming
effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. Lolly tried it on
herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks
ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had
enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a
deep, incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and
she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it. If you have
grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you
will be absolutely amazed by the effect.
Oh, and your feet will love you too!
Can anyone help with stuffy nose?
For more than two weeks I've suffered from seasonal allergy problems such as congestion, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, and an itchy throat. I can tolerate all of these excluding congestion. Every minute of the day, both of my nostrils are clogged up to the max and I cannot relieve it. Up to this point, I've tried all of the following:
-Zyrtec (Pill)
-Claritan D (Pill)
-Astelin (Spray)
-Afrin* (Spray)
*Note Afrin DID work for me perfectly, however, it is only recommended to use at a maximum of 3 days, so obviously I'll need an alternative.
I don't know what else is out there that really works. I'm tired of this, I don't want to have to go on weeks more just waiting to get used to it. What are other options? Whether it is a pill or nose spray, I need something that will work effectively and efficiently. Please, if anyone has any ideas, I'm open for recommendations.

What are some of astelin's side effects and should I use it even though I just got a cold?
I have used three or five different nasal spray and none of them worked. My allergic gave me a astelin sample. I just got a cold a few days ago while I was using Nasonex so I stopped using it. Now I don't know should I use astelin right now even though I have running nose.
Also, have anyone used it and if so does it have any side effect and does it work?

Thanks!
I went to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor for Sinus problems for the last month. See details for more details.?
I had a CT-Scan done. Went back for results, and my sinuses were clear. I broke my nose a year and a half ago, so I have a deviated septum. He didn't think it was severe enough to suggest surgery. He put me on more nasal spray (Nasocort and Astelin). It seems like it's been worse since I started them. Is that typical. My symptoms are a uncomfortable feeling in my right nostril, and my eye feels drying and a little bloodshot at times. Could allergies do this? My nose isn't running or anything. My question is advice, or looking for people who have had similar problems.
well both these inhalers would have treated allergies too. you can ask the doctor if he would consider things like singulair or zyrtec, allegra etc which are all pills and may not cause these problems. good luck
I haven't been able to breathe out of my nose for years. Help?
I recently went to my regular doctor who said I would need turbinate reduction/septoplasty, but when I went to an ENT, he said he could "drive a truck through my nose" because it was so open. (Even though I couldn't breathe through it when he said that!!)
I've tried using various sprays: astelin, rhinocort, etc... and I've been using saline sprays for months. Nothing is helping.
My ENT gave me two new sprays (potonase & nasonex) and suggested I get allergy shots (which I had once and refuse to have again).
Any ideas as to what is going on with my sinuses?
I've been on a candida diet for two and a half months with no difference.
Don't use any more sprays in your nose, that is one problem. Overuse of nasal spray. The problem also is what you are eating. It is causing a candida buildup in your nasal passages and they are swollen. Look at the link I provided and see if that helps. That can become a serious problem, you need to breathe through your nose to clean the air you breathe.
whats better,Astelin or Nasonex?
I currently have a cold right now my nose is real stuffy. What nasal spray should I use?Should I use Astelin or Nasonex?Which is better?I currently have been using both.Is that unhealthy
Astelin....way better.
I used to take Nasonex but my allergies are too severe. I am actually going to start shots soon, but the only thing that gives me total relief in the meantime is Astelin. I'm allergic to pretty much every tree, ragweed, cats, and dogs...but no molds or dust mites.
Astelin or Nasonex?
I currently have a cold right now my nose is real stuffy. What nasal spray should I use?Should I use Astelin or Nasonex?Which is better?I currently have been using both.Is that unhealthy
Personally, I like Nasonex better, but I've never had trouble taking both.
Nasal spray = sneeze?
My doctor gave me Astelin. Every time I spray it into my nostrils, I sneeze... for a long time. Are nasal spray supposed to make you sneeze? Or am I allergic to it? I've been using it for 5 days my nose is not that stuffy anymore but I still can't breathe through my nose. What's wrong with me?
Little miss sunshine: Exactly! In that case, does that mean the spray actually works or we waste it?
this is a traditional way,
in a pot,
1. heat water
2. Add two tea bags
3. Add some lemon juice
4. Using a toothpick, scape some vicks on the toothpick and drop it into a pot
5. Put the pot on the floor and get a blanket and breath in the smell in the pot. Make sure you and the pot are under a blanket.
This really really helps and I do it every time. Make sure you try it!

I am going nutts with my allergies. I have never had such suffering with sinus headaches, congestion, nose and throat burning and ear itchy. Is anyone have a really rough time this spring? I live on the east coast and can't figure out why. Anyone know why? I have tried Allegra, over the counter allergy meds and astelin nasal spray and they all make it worse. Help anyone?

Is there a fast acting Rx nasal spray safe for use over extended periods of time?
I have been uninsured for a while. I have lots of congestion and have been using afrin daily for a month. I know I shouldn't but now I am very congested, insured, and my GP doesn't seem to get that if I cannot breathe, I cannot sleep. I need to see an allergy specialist, but I want to be well informed. Please recommend me an inhaler or nasal spray to ask about, something that works instantly, unlike Astelin or Flonase, or Nasonex. I get such severe congestion and it's been making me so very miserable. Totally unable to breathe through my nose.
I'm use Afrin for 5 month, can't live without it. cant breath.?
I start using Afrin 5 month ago (after flu) since than my nose is stuffy
I try many different antibiotics, Nasonex, Astelin etc, my doctor even check me for an allergy- comes back negative.
I want to stop using this nose spray, but every time my nose get stuffy I spray Afrin. Can't sleep at night .Please Help!!!!!
Unfortunately nasal decongestants are effective but can have a rebounding effect that makes them addictive as well.
There's a copule of options here
1) Use the nasal spray and nasal steroid simultaneously for a couple weeks, then wean off the spray, the steroid should have it's effect in by then and make things a bit easier
2) There are commercial kits that you can order that are specifically to get people off decongestant sprays, which offer lower dose sprays until you get off.
As has been said, chronic use of these sprays is no good for the nose and may leave you with more problems than you started with
Clonazepam side effects?
Does anyone have experience with taking clonazepam? I currently take this medication along with Astelin Nasal Spray and Claritin. The clonazepam I take for severe night-time teeth grinding that leads to extreme jaw pain. It is the only thing that has worked so far. The problem is I am wondering about the side effects. Lately I have been very irritable, anxious, easily angered and just do not feel like myself. I am worried this could be from the medication but feel like I can not stop taking it because then all my pain would come back. I hate that medications have so many side effects. I even read that it can cause excessive secretions and runny nose and that is part of the reason I am on the allergy medications. I feel like I want to quit taking medications altogether but that is probably not a possibility due to the severity of my symtoms. Does anyone have any experience with taking these medications, particulary clonazepam?
I've never heard of that kind of medication being prescribed for that sort of use? I have been on and off Lorazepam for 6 years, which is a similar benzodiazepine. Never experienced any side effects though, but you should be careful as these types of medications are very addictive. You should request an alternative muscle relaxor.
Do you suffer from severe stress or anxiety or insomnia prior to being on the medications? Often they won't prescribe benzodiazapines unless you have some neurological/stress related disorder causing your problems.
Maybe get a second opinion, or see if your local physiotherapy clinic could suggest some muscle relaxing therapies you could use to reduce your clenching/grinding. And you should absolutely look into purchasing a mouth guard, as they can reduce the pain from night time grinding/clenching a whole lot!
As for the side effects, you should discuss them with your MD, as they can differ for everyone and may sometimes be caused by adverse interactions between medications. The anxiety/irritability doesn't sound like it would be caused by the clorazepam, as it's supposed to reduce these feelings in individuals. I'd suggest seeing your doctor and discussing alternative options.
Sick Congestion?
Hey all I've been sick with congestion for the past 5 days.I started with stuffy nose and sore throat then led to sinus and ear pressure. CT-Scan of Sinuses...question to follow..?
went to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor for Sinus problems for the last month. See details for more details.

Generally, you don't expect symptoms to get WORSE when you start nasal sprays like the ones you're on now.
The medications are a combination to treat allergies, not make them worse.
The Nasocort is an intranasal corticosteriod, the Astelin is an intranasal antihistamine/mast-cell stabilizer. If anything, it sounds like it might be a side-effect from the Astelin. Try off the Astelin, continue the Nasocort and see how it goes.
