CV will be equipped with a mask of Rip Hamilton esque and, hopefully, will be allowed to play. One might think that this would be pretty clear whether or not he could play - was hit in the nose is reminiscent of the worst until complete healing (can not play) or odds of re-injury are the same as any play basketball with or without recent surgery (can play) - but it seems there is a little more that I am not aware of although the same surgery at the university and be allowed to resume baseball (not basketball) the next day's activities.

Location ankle Gordon could be a little trickier, because the Pistons will probably wait until tomorrow to see how he responds to chase him around today. Gordon said he hopes he can practice tomorrow and will be ready for Wednesday.

In other injury news, Prince is apparently improved as well. Prince shot at without hesitation now and seems to be ahead of Hamilton, returning to the lineup.

The playboy son of Colonel Gaddafi has been the focus of a police investigation last night over claims he attacked his wife in a hotel in London on Christmas Day.

Mu'tassim Gaddafi - said Hannibal - lived with his wife, model Aline Skaf, 29, and their children in a luxury suite at Claridge's when the conflict erupted.

Police were called to the family £ 4000-a series tonight at 1:30 after the hotel staff heard a woman crying for help.

But when police arrived they found the Libyan despot of 33 year-old son locked in the room with his wife - with his bodyguard that blocks their way.

Three security guards were arrested at the scene for obstructing police.

Gadhafi, however, managed to escape after having called the Libyan Ambassador, who informed the officers that he had diplomatic immunity.

The Porsche-loving playboy and notorious Hell Raiser was then retracted into an embassy car.

A witness at the hotel five stars described hearing screams terrified: "I saw the staff tried to enter the room where a woman was crying. But these security guards not to let them pass.

While many police arrived, some of whom were armed, and they arrested the security guards.

"I could see a woman in the room and she was very distressed and in an extremely bad.

"She was bleeding profusely from the nose and face. His nose was clearly broken and it looked as if she would need surgery.'

Miss Skaf, a Libyan model who speaks fluent French and Arabic, was transported by ambulance to a London hospital for treatment of a suspected broken nose.

She later claimed her injuries were accidental, telling police she had fallen.

The Gaddafi's bodyguards were taken to the police station but later released without charge.

Scotland Yard confirmed officers and an ambulance were called to the Hotel Claridge. A spokesman said: "A woman was taken to hospital suffering facial injuries....

The Best Way to Treat A Broken Nose: Usually it is better to wait ...

Almost every day we see a patient or two who have a crooked nose, with the obvious question of how can it be fixed. What most patients and even many surgeons still do not realize is that correction of a crooked nose is truly one of the more difficult things to achieve with rhinoplasty. So how do we suggest you get it done?

First scenario, is in the acute situation, say after a car accident or some other injury.  You may or may not go to the Emergency Room at the nearest hospital, where they may or may not even notice your nose depending on the level of other injuries. Occasionally you may also have a nose bleed, which then causes the ER doctor to place some Merocel or other packing to stop the bleeding.  What’s next?

If the ER doc calls and you are lucky enough to have a specialist come in to see you it may be either a “plastic surgeon” or an “ENT.” The problem here is that you have no idea if this doctor really has genuine expertise in the nose or rhinoplasty in particular. Let me be clear, obviously either of these doctors can manage the acute trauma and have treated patients with broken noses before. The issue I am raising is that rhinoplasty is perhaps the most exacting of all plastic surgery procedures- as the difference of a millimeter can really be the difference between a straight nose and a crooked nose, or a straight profile or small bump.

What we find is that there are many surgeons who still recommend a “simple” closed reduction of the fracture. In other words, they can numb the nose and surrounding area and simply push the broken bone back to its original position. If you live in Canada or if the present health care reform package in the House passes, this will likely be the course of treatment the vast majority of people will receive. And truthfully, if there is a simple non-comminuted, non depressed fracture and no deviation of the septum, this treatment will suffice.

But in the majority of other cases we have found that simple closed reduction does not correct all of the problems. In our experience, in the majority of cases the nasal fracture is not so simple. Oftentimes the septum and/or the upper lateral cartilages are involved. So what does that mean and how does that change the treatment algorithm?

Does a broken nose require surgery?

I broke my nose and they say I need plastic surgery, I mean it's not so twisted and I can breathe ok? Do I really have to get it?

No. If no breathing problem and you're ok with how it looks, you no longer need to have the surgery done. She seems to be purely cosmetic in that case, and no need for you to live your life to the fullest.

Or if you break it, it's not really an injury to fix, since it is such a small body part? Can you have a nose job or will that not make it worse?
My nose is not broken, but I have family members who do and I 've seen peaple who do too.

Yes, it can be fixed with the same procedure as a cosmetic nose job.

Broken Nose Surgery question?

About a week and a half ago at baseball practice a grounder took a bad hop and hit me dead on the nose, I had x-rays the next day and they didn't find anything broken, but then they sent the x-rays to a nose, ear, and throat doctor and they found I do have a broken nose, they said yesterday that my nose was curved and since I'm 14 and still growing it will look all weird when I get older.

So this Monday I'm having surgery done to put it back in place, they have to put me to sleep and I was wondering if there is any side affects with the sleep thing. And will my nose hurt a lot when I wake up?

Plus after it they have to put some strip on my nose that molds to it and I wear glasses so will I still be able to wear them without any problems?

The first interpretation of your x-ray may have been by a general ER doc. The ENT specialist may have seen something the first reading missed. (Or not, hard to tell). Depending on the curvature you may have sinus problems without surgery (be careful with cosmetic reasons because insurance compaines balk at paying cosmetically-related surgeries). Your parents are aware of this.

As far as anesthesia, you may have some constipation for a day or 2, eat fiber and drink liquids. Some people are tired and groggy for a day or two, some not. May have dry mouth. Make sure you are urinating and your bowels are moving. Medical professionals will monitor that before you leave and on your follow-up visits. Just follow doctor's instructions. You will be fine.

Pain is also subjective. You will be tender, but each person's pain tolerance is different.
The medical professionals are very good at assessing and providing pain relief medications. The strip will probably have some sort of accommodation for those who wear glasses.

All in all, be thankful you are getting the surgery now, correcting anything that may cause sinus/breathing problems, and the added benefit of the cosmetic nature.

Just follow physician orders and you will be better than ever in no time, batting 1000.

Im getting my nose fixed tomorrow and my deviated septum. Im a little worried about waking up. My nose will be packed. Has anyone had this before? Is the packing unbearable??

Your doc will more than likely prescribe a pain medication. You need to ask if he doesn't offer, and if when you get home your nose really hurts after you take the pain meds, need to call the docs office and tell the receptionist that your pain is not well controlled. You can call 24/7 as there will be an on-call. Be prepared to rate the pain on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being excruciating so she can convey this to the doc. You can also apply ice to the bridge of your nose to alleviate swelling. But your doc will send you home with instructions, and if he doesn't, ask him for written instructions. That's why they earn the big bucks!! Know what? It will pass........be well

im scared of surgery sooooo i need help FAST!!
me and my friend was on her trampoleine and we were doing tricks on there and my friend did a backflip and brok my nose and blood started gushing out of my nose and i was crying sooooo hard and i hurryed up to my house and told my mom and she gave me ice and i didnt heal at alll WHAT SHOULD I DO PLEASE

i had gotten a fractured nose in high school after getting punched in the face. I got surgery a couple days later but my nose was still crooked. They told me that i would have to get a second surgery later on. My question is do people with broken noses ever have to get a second operation? It's just weird to me. i don't think it was even that bad

Sometimes the doctors fix broken noses in two operations, but most often they do it just a few days (or in the first fortnight) after the initial injury - once the swelling has settled.

Did they say why you would need a second operation later? Is it because of your age? Were they unable to fix it completely the first time?

Did they tell you when you should return to have the second operation?

From a functional point of view, it's mostly important for your breathing. Changes to your nose can also affect your sinuses and maybe even the sound of your voice. And of course there is the cosmetic appearance factor.

When your nose is broken, does the bent shape or "bump" occur after the break or after surgery?

I broke my nose when i was 14 in school.. straight after i broke it my teacher asked: "have you always had that bump".. i never really knew so i said yes. But my nose was slightly bent on the side, i h ad surgery to fix this... Now that I'm 18 i have a slight bump on the bridge of my nose.... does the bump usually appear after surgery or after the initial break?

after the break. the way it breaks is the way it heals, and if you dont tell the surgeons specifically to fix your nose, they'll leave it the shape it is and just make sure it doesnt look bizzare.

Broken Nose Surgery and Deviated Septum?

I broke my nose many times and never fixed it, fell off a stroller as a toddler, just always fell on my nose, soccer ball to the face, and kickboxing extreme sparring sessions. I have a deviated septum
that is what i want corrected, but my family and friends tell me to get a straighter profile so i dont look like a parrot. Can I get deviated septum fixed and at the same time straighten out my profile all in one operation?

You can absolutely have it done at the same time...I had it done, and it was one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

See a good ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat specialist). They can tell you if they can do the procedure themselves, or can recommend a good cosmetic surgeon.

Just do yourself a favor before your surgery (even if you just have your septum repaired)...go out and get some Oasis mouthwash and spray (you can get it at Walgreens or CVS). It's a hydrating formula to keep your mouth from drying out. Your nose will be packed with cotton for a few weeks, and you'll have to breathe out your mouth. Use that stuff before you go to bed so you don't wake up a million times in the night with your mouth totally dried out and your tongue as hard as a rock.

Got into fight with a friend, Broken Nose resulting in surgery?

A friend and I were in a heated argument, we were both drinking, push came to shove and it ended with him having a broken nose, needing surgery. Insurance covered all, but 3000 dollars, Should I pay half on good will. Im not sure what to do, he asked and I have split feelings, about paying him? I feel I should, but then feel he shouldnt be so cocky all the time and he deserved it!
Any thoughts/comments. I jsut want to do the right thing, because now its tearing up the our friendship because he feels I should pay half??
He couldnt kick my ass or he would have slick, and were like brothers, brothers do fight.
I just want to know the most honnorable thing to do, People do fight, especially when your practically family! I dont need B.S answers, pay or not to pay, my nose could have been broke too, meybe he will think before running his mouth to people?

even if you pay for the half, friendship is already ruined. a broken glass is a broken glass. you cant glue it. :)

i recently had my nose broken by assult. My septum is fine but I did fracture it and had surgery to put the piece of bone that broke off back into place about a week ago. I have a cast on my nose. However, there is this bump on the side of my nose just outside the cast, and I am afraid that the bone broke off again. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm worried. I get the cast off in 4 days. Is the bump swelling or cartilige or what? And is it possible that I might have to have the surgery again? thank you!!

When a bone starts to heal you get a large area of calcification around the fracture where the body is sending plenty of material for the healing process to the area. Hopefully it is from that. It will gradually go away. Follow up with your doctor as scheduled or call the office when you have questions. They are your best resource.

At the end of this year (my senior year) I'm having my nose re-broken . I broke it back in 7th grade and it slowly got more crooked and theres a bump where it got broken. Have any of you had surgery to fix your broken nose? How did it go? I've never had any surgery like this so I'm a little nervous. I really want it to be straight again though as I have a deviated septum.

you wont feel it..........if you do it will be afterwards.....usually give u pain pills

Probably the same number of weeks that your doctor said you will need to keep the cast on your nose. I know that sounds flippant, but whoever casted your nose knows best how bad the break was, how well it was set, and any other factors which would influence heal time. I can't imagine they would perform surgery on your nose and not give you an estimated heal time... but if somehow they did, you should probably call them up and ask them about it.

I've had surgery after breaking my nose two times in the space of 4 months, people at my school didn't take a shine to me obviously. The NHS performed manipulation surgery on it under ENT, ear nose & throat both times, but my nose still points to the left. Is there anything i could do to manipulate it myself, anything at all, the surgery's are pretty uncomfortable and painful. I'm 15 years of age, so private surgery isn't an option. I just hat my nose like this, Is it there anything I can do? Thanks, Conor

the averags person's nose isnt perfectly straight (not counting Hollywood, Calif of course). Is the crookedness a result of the nose breaks? If so, the surgeon should have corrected that I would think.... With age your nose will grow differently, however if it is a major defect in your nose, chances are it may not get better.

I think the only advice i have to give you is this: God made us all, and if your nose is not straight, he still made you that way. To put it bluntly, just deal with it and think of all the good things you have in your life.

My fiance broke his nose. The doctor told him it is not medically necessary to have surgery to set it straight as it is not blocking his nasal passages or anything like that. It is barely crooked anyway, but my question is: exactly how painful is it to have the surgery to re-set it and will insurance cover such a procedure?

i broke my nose and had surgery to repair it... same situation..not necessary but it was crooked. my insurance paid for it, it didn't hurt too bad... on a scale of 1-10, 10 being dying pain. I'd say the fist day was like a 3 then the 2nd-5th day was a 4 or so. but it got better. i think i was in less pain the first day because of anesthesia still wearing off. the most annoying part was i had to were like a cast on my nose for 2 weeks then a smaller one for 1 more week. oh and it sucked real bad when my boyfriends nephew who was 1 head butted me the day after surgery right in the nose. it bleed then and at other times just kind of sporadically. oh and lets not forget that it really sucks not being able to breath our ur nose for 2 weeks ♥

When my husband was younger, he had a severe sinus infection. He needed surgery to drain the nasal cavities. During this surgery, his nose was broken and then reset, but not correctly. Since that surgery his nose is a lot wider than his original nose (almost twice the width), he has a large scar on one side and he has trouble breathing. My question is, would this be considered reconstrutive surgery and would our insurance cover that being that this happened so many years ago?

So it has been determined I need deviated septum surgery and suffer from ridiculous constant sinus infections. I am absoultely sick of them and was told I have to wait 10-12 months for surgery. I was put on the cancellation list but that is at random. I am wondering if anyone knows if I find a way to break my nose will they just do the surgery while its broken or would I have to wait for the swelling anyways??seriously that desperate
