In 2007, I went to see an ENT for tinnitus, ringing in the ear. Dr. S ordered tests and found polyps sinuses a benign condition shared by 30 to 40% of the population. The day that Dr. S read the scan, he was inexplicably angry against me. So angry that he could not even look at me. "Do not ask stupid questions!" He barked. "Just listen! Do not! "He said he would remove some polyps. He did not mention the words" reduction cones "or" Caldwell-Luc. "He said:" We'll fix it deviated septum in the same time. "
Six days later, Dr.S dismounted my face and destroys the function of my nose to ambulatory surgery center. I acquired Acinetobacter resistant to antibiotics, hospital acquired or nosocomial infection in surgery. Only seriously ill patients are susceptible Acinetobacter. A bunch of bone measuring about two inches by two inches was drilled and power-saw my face and nose. I lost a significant portion of the inner member of my nose. The frame of my face and nose were destroyed. The soft tissues were inexplicably removed from my face. My septum was shortened by turning the nose into a pig's snout.
Everything that Dr.S has done is an injury to his face and my health. Loss of bone structure and soft tissues are the major challenges of an aging face. In self-described artist, he is not credible that Dr. S removed all these tissues without realizing what he was doing on my face. There was no medical basis for anything he did. The pre-surgery CT report states that "any deviation of the septum occurs." I had no breathing problems, never had a sinus infection and had never been seen by another doctor with any questions or nasal sinuses. I had tinnitus, which is not caused by sinus polyps. At fifty-five years, my face was almost no sign of aging.
May I know why Dr. S was so angry against me the day he ordered the surgery? I think I do. Several months after surgery while writing a book, I found the missing piece of the puzzle in a file....
Chronic Stuffy Nose, Nasal Polyps and Fungus : Target Health Global
By Gabe Mirkin, MD, December 14, 2009 - Chronic sinus infections associated with nasal polyps are difficult to heal because doctors do not know what causes them. Nasal polyps are small finger-like, fluid-filled blisters, often associated with asthma and serious reactions to aspirin. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic found fungi in 96 percent of people with chronic sinusitis (1).
A symposium shows that sinus infections caused by fungi are common in people with defective immunity such as HIV and hepatic C (2-13).Injections against allergies and antihistamines have not been shown to control the combination of chronic stuffy nose, nasal polyps and sinus infections that do not vary throughout the season. Doctors treat this condition with cortisone, which suppress the runny nose, headache and nasal congestion a bit, but never cure the patient and may even place the patient for worsening symptoms over the years.
The most common fungi are Alternaria, Penicillium, Cladosporium, Aspergillus, Candida and Fusarium. A sinus cat scan will tell whether a person has a sinus infection. If the cat scan shows fluid levels indicating a sinus infection, the doctor should order a culture of mushroom truffle. If culture is positive for fungi, the doctor should consider treatment with antifungal drugs, although there are no good studies to show the antifungal drugs sinusitis cure, because the current treatment of cortisone works only in the short term, and shortens life by osteoporosis, hypertension and obesity. If the fungus infection is positive, the person must be treated with appropriate anti-fungal medication such as Sporanox, Lamisil or Diflucan.People with positive skin tests to molds are most likely to suffer asthma attacks so severe they require hospitalization (14).
If your nose is stuffy during the pollen season in spring and fall, check with an allergist. Allergy injections can help control your symptoms. If your stuffy nose started after puberty, you do not have allergies and your nose is stuffy 12 months a year, allergy injections usually are ineffective. Antihistamines and decongestant pills help control your symptoms a little. Cortisone-type pills are highly effective but have side effects, such as obesity and osteoporosis.Cortisone sprays of nasal type are safer than pills. Physicians are continually seeking improved ways to treat people with chronically stuffy nose and running. Two articles offer new treatments for a chronic stuffy nose: a nasal pepper spray and injection of an anesthetic and type of cortisone in the nerves of the nose. Many people find relief with saline irrigation, using various devices that are readily available in pharmacies, check with your doctor or pharmacist for their recommendations....
Detailed Information on Nasal Polyposis | Nose Knows
Nasal polyps are the most common tumors of the nasal cavity. Nasal polyposis can impair a person’s quality of life more than perennial allergic rhinitis. Nasal polyps are soft, jelly-like overgrowths of the lining of the sinuses. They look like grapes on the end of a stalk. Large polyps can bloc the nose and increase the risk of sinusitis. They may be yellowish, grey or pink in colour. They are common and are not cancerous. Nasal polyposis results from chronic inflammation of the nasal and sinus mucous membranes. Chronic inflammation causes a reactive hyperplasia of the intranasal mucosal membrane, which results in the formation of polyps. Nasal polyps can vary significantly in size. There may be only one but sometimes several develop like a ’small bunch of grapes’ on a stem. Polyps usually affect both nostrils. Nasal polyps can vary greatly in size. There may be only one but sometimes several grow like a ’small bunch of grapes’ on a stem. The cause of the inflammation is certain conditions make nose inflammation and polyps more likely. These include: asthma, allergy to aspirin, cystic fibrosis, and some rare conditions of the nose. Nasal polyps can occur along with many other respiratory diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, asthma, and aspirin allergy. Nasal polyps also occur in a majority of people with Churg-Strauss syndrome, a rare disease that inflames the blood vessels (vasculitis). Nasal polyps occur in around 1 in 200 people. It appears that nasal polyps are more common in people with non-allergic rhinitis and non-allergic asthma, rather than allergic types of these conditions. Nasal polyps can affect anyone. However, most cases occur in people over the age of 40 years. They are four times more common in men than in women. In general, women are more likely to have nasal polyps than are men. Nasal polyps are uncommon in children. Medications are the most common treatment for nasal polyps. Surgery may be needed to...
