Sinusitis is an acute or chronic disease caused by swelling of nasal and sinus inflammation. The passages create inflated nasal obstruction and nasal discharge can not be evicted; of infection at the time displayed.

A sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, can cause much pain. It is the result of inflammation of nasal or sinus or both. Curiously most cases of chronic sinusitis, are in nature.

The main causes of sinusitis are swollen sinuses occur mostly in people with asthma or allergies, as chronic sinusitis or infection, and after a bad cold. Smoking and swimming can also cause inflammation of the sinuses. Use to much or too often nasal decongestants may induce an opposite effect with swollen sinuses.

There are several ways to treat chronic sinusitis. Decongestants, antibiotics and other forms of oral medication can be given. Some doctors drain the mucosa of the nose with saline and a syringe.Surgery is the last option which is made only when other options do not work. The infected mucosa is then removed surgically. This type of surgery may be done under local or general anesthesia.

Sinusitis pain have different characteristics depending on the sinus involved, a general type of pain is one that comes up in the morning when you get out of bed. Pain caused by bending the head forward are specific to frontal sinusitis, pain in upper teeth, upper jaw and cheeks are signs of maxillary sinus infection.Ethmoid sinusitis causes pain between the eyes and swollen eyelids, loss of smell and nose without air. Does the neti pot that you stick up your nose help sinus pressure?

My brother suggested I use a Neti pot when I complained of severe sinus pressure.

From what I understand is basically a teapot and poured a solution into the nose and out the other side of your nose and sinuses drains.

Does this work? Have you all used? Does it make you feel better?

I can not manage a Neti pot, but I do this.My husband uses this technique to keep getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I used to cure sinus infections. There are several types of bacteria that live in the sinuses, which gets rid of all bad!. It's the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill the bacteria.
you need

distilled water
Sea salt
Liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver in the health food store.
in a mixing glass 1 / 4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
Add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a dropper large (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull on one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn your head and let it drain on the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels. or simply use a Neti pot, I like that better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are hundreds of guys who can live in the sinus cavities and anti antibiotics do not get rid of them all.
To do this twice a day for one week, stirring the mixture fresh each time.
Then do once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in what hurts you, and it cured me.
I did not take Claritin or more antibiotics.

Does anyone know how long swelling last inside nose after sinus surgery?

I had an endoscopic sinus surgery and septoplasty on my nose and went to the doctor for my 2 post appt Cooperation Week and said inside of my nose is still really swollen from surgery.

Usually takes about 6 weeks. In the meantime. Be careful about personal hygiene and staying away from people with colds and flu.

Does nose sinus bring worms as a symptom?

I was blowing my nose into a piece of tissue, and after I threw it away, I noticed a worm crawling slowly on my finger. It was black with slight opaque, about 1.2cm long and less than 1mm in diameter. If not from sinus, please advise on the kind of worm. Thanks.

Are you sure the worm wasn't just on your hand, and you only noticed it after you blew your nose, but it didn't come from there?

They must have gone through my right eye to get to the sinus..It bled for a week..Now when I blow my nose the air comes out my eye and then mucus. I have to wipe it to be able to see.
What do I do it's been over a month.

Oh, Debbie, please go back to the surgeon or your general practicioner and find out what's going on. It's so sad these days that no matter how much we pay for a service, especially in the medical field, we seem to get slighted.
Sister, everyday I pray tenfold for God's Kingdom to come.....we all need so much relief in this old system.

After Sinus surgery nose lose sense of smell and taste?

After correcting a deviated septum surgery I..... can no longer smell coffee [starbucks] and even though my nose is not 'stuck' anymore as much I still get nose infections almost daily. My mouth taste kinda acidic or alkaline???... why? How do I cure this problem if even remotely possible. I thought having the nose/ sinus surgery would help... but it did not. I think it is more on allergies possibly.

It may take awhile for your sense of smell to recover from the surgery, I would think everything would come back,, allergies could be causing it though, call your docs office and ask if all this is normal

I've been having problems with severe pain and swelling on the side of my nose for about 5 days now, and I've been suffering from a sinus infection for about 10 days. I get them chronically and antibiotics don't really work any more, which is why I waited so long before going to the doctors; at this point it barely makes a difference. Anyway, I get them about once a month, go on antibiotics for 20 days, feel OK for 10 days, then I'm back on the antibiotics again - a terrible cycle! This has been going on for 10+ years, and I've never had a swollen face before, but my doctor said that this swelling I'm experiencing is from the infected sinus fluid leaking into my face I guess (?). I'm thinking that as I'm becoming more resistant to the antibiotics, the sinus infections are just getting worse. Anyway, I also got the biggest pimple of my life in that same area (I've never had acne) -- could that be the infected sinuses "leaking out" through my skin where it's so swollen in that area?
Also, has anyone heard of getting a swollen cheekbone filled with fluid that's extremely painful (the part where your cheekbone connects to your nose) with sinusitis? Thank you so much!

I have had severe sinus problems since I had my wisdom teeth removed (about 7 years). The only thing that works for me are hot and cold rice packs. I put them on my face and the back of my neck for about 10-20 min. The steam from the hot pack soothes the sinus and relieves the pain. The cold pack takes away the swelling. Alternate between the two of them for a couple of days. As for the pimple I have no idea. I have heard that antibiotics can cause skin changes. Hope this helps.

Bad smell in my nose, caused by sinus drainage or nasal secretions?

I've had a bad smell in my nose for years now, it never really goes away and sometimes its worse than others. I do not have sinus problems, I never cough up phlegm like most people do, I am not sick either. I rarely get colds, maybe once a year. I do not have bad breath, Brush my teeth regularly and rinse with mouthwash. I dont have any infections.
I clean my nostrils everyday with a q tip like most people so theres nothing up there.

certain foods make it smell worse ( any food that makes my nose run) pizza, spaghetti, salad dressing, onions, garlic, ketchup are some of the worst foods that make it worse.

I cant even stop and smell the roses like everybody else, they are enjoying smelling food, etc, and all i can smell is this snot. Smells kinda like cheese. What is this ?

one of my friends had very similar symptoms and it turned out to be a fungal infection deep inside the nasal canal. you should get it checked out by a doctor. >i am NOT a doctor<

The ony things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

It sounds to me as if the mucus membranes that line your sinuses may be swollen. Try a nasal spray like Afrin. If this is a chronic problem, you may need to spring for something like nasacort, which has a mild steroid to prevent your body from "over reacting" to allergens.
Be sure to use the nasal spray exactly as directed though, as overuse can lead to a kind of rebound effect. Theres a coupon for a dollar off at the Afrin site...
And you might want to pick up some saline nasal spray while you're at it too- just to protect the membranes and keep them healthy.

I'm not being nasty. It is nasty to me. actually. I've been having this not sure what is is cold or sinus infection for 5 days now. I don't want to take medicine because I am pregnant. My nose runs alot and is stomped up. Yesterday I kept blowing my nose and snot came from my eyes and nose. I could feel me blowing out of my eyes. Whats up with this?

the inside corners of your eyes have a duct that connects into the back of your nose. It is basically where your tears drain to and is why you sniffle when you cry. If you have a bad cold, it is possible to blow stuff up that duct from your nose into your eyes.

You shouldn't blow so hard. You can do yourself damage. Blow out one nostril at a time. You can clear most stuff out and not blow out your eyes or ears that way.

Yes, mine has done this for years, it started when I was probably 7 or 8 and now I am 26 and it is still doing it. I just have very severe allergies.

Confirm with your doctor (just call'em, or try some nurse hotline), but depending on the amount and the specific type of sinus/... meds, yah problably. Valium doesn't react badly with much.

I woke up about 3 days ago and the outside of my nose felt tender. I don't remember hitting my nose or anyone hitting my nose. It's not red or swollen. I have been having headaches, but that's pretty normal for me this time of the year. I have a runny nose, but pretty much, those are my symptoms. Someone mentioned that I might have a sinus infection.

You may have a skin blemish on, or inside your nose if the tenderness is localized to one area...

Typically a sinus infection will produce tender areas above your eyes and behind your cheekbones - your nose itself isn't affected. You will also get dark colored mucus that is thick, not clear or runny...and maybe feel a slight fever.

okay i wake up and 5:30 am and start running but my nose is always blocked when i wake up and i can feel all the sinus backed up there and my head hurts and then i start sneezing until it gets unblocked and its all good but when i start running its still blocked and my head hurts and stuff so is there anyway of waking up without your nose being all stuffed up

Just got over a 10 day cold, produced tons of mucus/drainage/sore throat. Now two days in a row I've gotten really bad headaches, worsened when/if I bend forward or down. My nose isn't runny anymore except at night. I wonder if it is possible to have a sinus infection but not keep a runny nose.
No insurance, so only going to the dr if ABSOLUTELY necassary. Thanks for the help.

You can have a sinus infection without a runny nose. You have lots of sinuses in your head and I'm pretty sure that all of them don't connect to your nose and that all of them can possibly become infected. And even if it is one that conects to your nose it doesn't neccisarily mean your nose is gonna drip.

Could I still have a sinus infection if my nose isn't stuffed up and face isnt swollen?

ive been looking at symptoms, and it makes sense, cuz ive been getting a little bit of a sore throat
buttttt no part of my face is swollen, and my nose is only stuffed up a teeny teeny tiny barely-noticeable-unless-im-thinking-about-it kind of way

continue to drink lotsa water & use the nasal rinse. see an ENT or have your primary care doc order a CT.

Short of taking Claritin or Allegra D what can i do?

In my case, I stopped eating dairy products and all of my chronic sinus symptoms disappeared, kind of magically. So it might be what you don't eat, rather than what you do.

hi yes it CAN cause worried smells but it is nothing to worry about because it is just from the mucus's billed up and it starts to smell bad
