Nasal Adhesions-How to prevent it — Dr Paulose

Nasal Adhesions-how to prevent

Nasal adhesions are not uncommon after surgery of the nose and nasal packing. Rarely seen in the patents that have tuberculosis, sarcoidosis and lupus. Snuffers cocaine and nose pickers can also get adhesions after nasal trauma. The first area between the septum and lateral wall get melted. Adhesions in the nose are also called synechiae. Adhesions are a common, usually minor, complications of surgery of the nose or sinuses and nasal packing.

Adhesions are formed when two moist, opposing surfaces inside the nose heal together with collagen, causing a scar. The adhesions can make breathing difficult mouth breathing and snoring

How to Prevent

After surgery, a silastic nasal splint may be placed in the nose for the week. The splint is sutured in place by Ethilon. This helps prevent the adhesion formation. You should avoid blowing your nose while the splint is in place.Your doctor will probably suggest you use an ointment such as Neosporin ® or Sicastat ® gel to moisten your nose and prevent infection while the splint is in place.

Journaling through rhinoplasty: Day 5 - The splint is off and the ...

Just got back from the doc - he took off my splint! It didn't hurt as bad as I thought. He put some serum on the plastic that made it easier to remove. He also took out the stiches that were under my nose and used a suction tool to get some gunk out. I can breathe a little better now! He said that my nose is swollen and will get worse for a few days now that the splint is off, because it has more room to grow. But, most of that should go away within two weeks.

can you give me deatils on getting a nose job?

I think im getting a nose job this summer and I want to know more about it before I vist the surgon. Can you tell me what age you should be? How long must the surgey? How long have you been to the splint on his nose after heart? or watever there is to know.

OK first, I will not give you international telephone rates as other posters. Everyone I know who got a nose job was 18 years or more. It will take up to 2 hours for surgery. You want to wear a splint for 10-14 days. You may be able to get your insurance company to pay for it if the surgeon can find a medical reason for the surgery. The most common reason is a restriction of airflow. It may be worth your time to ask your doctor about this. Also, if you want to see how other people describe their surgery SignatureForum allows people to assess their practices and physicians.

Hope this helped!

how long after a nose job can i work out or play drums?

a week after my job the nose splint is coming off, and IM wondering how long should I wait to start working again and play Drumset?

What can you do if your rhinoplasty went terribly wrong and the doctor made your nose too small?

It has been 5 days since I had my nose done and I just got the splint removed, the doctor made my nose too small. The bridge of my nose is also swollen so bad that it is even puffy between my eyes.

Can he make it better. I never wanted my nose this small. can he fix that?

Your best bet is to wait for a month or 2. You are wanting immediate results, and that doesn't happen. He has other fixing methods, so don't dispair. If you are not happy after 2 or 3 months, then go back and see. right now, you HAVE to wait.

How long will my nose take to heal?

I broke my nose 9 days ago now, apparently they wont perform surgery or splint it or anything. I have to wait. How long until it's healed?

Around 2-3 months. 1 month at the lowest.

Has anybody had rhinoplasty/nose job? I am curious about splint/pain/recovery time.?

I am having this done June 1st. I had a septoplasty 3 years ago but this time I am having my cartilage/hump removed.

my sister had her nose done and i thought it looked horrifically painful.

she took pain medication and was really out of it. she didn't remember any pain.

i think it's painful for the people taking care of you.

Is my splinted nose really broken?

I apparently fractured my nose during a hockey game from an elbow. When I went to the doctor, and got an xray he said that it might be fractured. However there is no deformity, bit of swelling and discoloration. He did splint it with a beige colored splint too and some tape. Told me it will help with the swelling and to come back in a week for a follow up. Is it normal to splint a nose with only a possible fracture? I have a wedding I have to go to in a week. Help!
Used a 'moldable nasal splint'
Ottawa, ON, Canada

Same thing happened to me. I got an x ray and doctor said there was no obvious fracture, but I had an appt with the doctor the day after I hurt my nose. She explained that if it was not to badly out of shape a fracture may not show up on an x ray with bad swelling... and bad swelling 24 hours after an injury is a sign of a broken nose.

So my nose was bandaged up for a week and I was told I could follow up with an ENT in a week or two if I wanted to have it re x rayed an set if needed be. I didn't so to this day I don't know if my nose was broken or not.

Just leave the splint on for a week... If it is broken it will keep it from moving out of place. It might not be broken but if it is you may have to get yuor nose reset and wear a splint again.

Just out of curiosity where is this Dr. (city, state)?

no one i know has ever had a splint on their broken noses... but medicine is different here.

Just got my splint off today, can I use biore strips yet?

I got a nose job last Monday, and the strip was taken off today. While I'm happy with my results, the splint's removal revealed some nasty blackheads. I just want to use my biore strips, is it ok to use if I pull it off gently?

Ha, your nose might do a Michael Jackson on you. I have used the strips before, and, I really wouldn't recommend that you do that. Seriously. Those strips could peel your nose away. They pull up my skin when I peel them away, they will do it to your nose, too. Talk to your doc, he'll say what to do and what not to do.

i have a crooked nose from an accident, if i broke it again and put a splint on it, would this straighten it?

thats not a very good idea.

no

After a nose job, how long should I wait before going out in public?

I know that I have to wait a week until the splint comes off, and the doctor told me that I might even cry when the splint comes off because it'll look so swollen and I won't be satisfied.

So when, usually, does the swelling go down enough for me to look somewhat normal? I know that it's fully complete in 6 months, but that's not what I'm asking.

You shouldn't have to wait to go out in public (and it's pretty much impossible in any case). While your nose may be swollen for a little while, you will need to get used to having a new nose, and the people around you will have to get used to it too. I would just get used to it and go live your life. Feel beautiful and be happy.

a little while...

how long after SEPTOPLASTY/SINUS surgery are the splints in the nose taken out?

I had my sugery done on Tues 11/24 at 8:00 AM.....I had the splints taken out today (SAT 11:49 AM) So Like 3-4 days is your best bet....this was the nastiest surgery omg dude.....your nose will feel like shit...but pain killers help =)...before the splints were taken out..my nose was pretty much bleeding constantly (I don't know if that always happens). Also at first you'll feel really really frustrated with the surgery but you'll get used to it pretty quick. I even ran a fever for a short period of time so don't freak out if you do as well. Oh and the pain meds I got were called Oxycodone...yeah they cause constipation =(

hope I answered the question =)

I just had a nose sergury on monday I am currently taking percocet 5/325 I was taking 2 every 6 hours for pain?

The pain worstened or I got alittle immune to it and now I have to take 2 every 4-5 hours. Its wednesday and my splints comeout next monday is that bad?

I had nose surgery 18months ago and found within the first 7-10 days the pain worsened but it gradually eased after that. I found sleeping as sat up as possible and only eating food like jelly and soup helped. I also crushed/broke up my tablets so they were easier to take

Nose crooked due to splints after septoplasty?

My nose has never been crooked. But I had a deviated septum. I just had surgery yesterday to fix this, and splints were placed in my nostrils. But my nose looks crooked. I don't know if this is something normal just due to how the splints were placed and swelling, or if this isn't right. Anyone else have this happen? Can you shed some light as to whether this means my nose will be crooked when it wasn't before, or if it just looks that way right now, but will look normal once the splints are out?

Or if you are an ENT doctor, especially, I'd love to get your answer.

Help!
Thanks!

i sure is alright

question for those who had a nose job?

What happened directly after surgery did someone drive you home or did you stay overnight somewhere then drive yourself home the next day? Also I know some people get a splint but what else is actually on your nose besides some stuffing and how was the pain?

I had my nose done in 1987 , That was done in Europe .
Here , I know that they send you home after surgery .
Not in Europe , they keep you in the hospital for 3 days .
There is no pain .
It feels a little uncomfortable the first few days because of the stuffing they put in your nose to stop the bleeding .
And , of course , you will have 2 black eyes , other then that it's no big deal at all.

A septoplasty is different than a rhinoplasty. A septoplasty is to fix a deviated septum, clean out sinus problems, remove polyps, etc. A rhinoplasty is what most people refer to as a "nose job" - it is totally cosmetic and is not meant to fix anything medical.

A septoplasty heals quickly, it is a medical procedure and shouldn't affect the shape of the nose at all. This is what I had done, a septoplasty. NOT a rhinoplasty.

Those tv shows generally show nose jobs, or rhinoplasty surgeries, and those do change the nose shape and can take months up to a year for swelling to go away.

I'm not a doctor or anything but, I watched a TLC makeover show once and they would do surgery type thing to their noses and the doctor would say it usually takes a few months for all the swelling to completely go away. They even said something similiar to ashley tisdale's nose. Her nose didn't look so good in the pictures that were taken shortly after the surgery but if you find pictures of her now she looks so much better. I don't think you have anything to worry about but at your next appointment I would mention it to the doctor and see what he thinks.

Should i get surgery on my nose?

hi two months ago i broke my nose and i got surgery to straighten it and im guessing it didnt heal properly now i have a small hump on my nose and i used to have a nice straight nose. I really dont want it to change how girls look at me and stuff, should i go in for surgery to fix it, or do you think wearing a tight splint for maybe a month would do anything?
im 15 and idk i didnt even notice it myself till a week ago but its really botherin me now

I think you should wait a while. Maybe the hump will go away. Surgery should be your last option. As you said, you already had surgery once, and it didn't work. I'm sure if you are a sweet young man, the ladies will still love you even with a little hump, plus, its something you can use to IMPRESS the ladies. There used to be a time when a man wasn't a man unless he had a scar on his face to show he had fought some. :-)

had a deviated nose surgery and getting the splints out a week later, what can i do to minimize the pain?

So I'm 14 years old, and I had the deviated septum surgery or "septoplasty" on Tuesday May 5th. They didn't have to break my nose or pack it or anything, but they did insert these plastic hollow tubes and stitches and splints. The day after the surgery I had the tubes and stitches removed (which was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced because there was no numbing and the doctor literally yanked the stitch out of my nose). So this Monday I have the splints taken out and I have a friend who had the same surgery with the same doctor and she said the splints hurt even more than getting the tubes and stitches out. What can I do to minimize the pain from getting the splints removed? The doctor prescribed Tylenol with Codine and its been working ok but would it help for me to take it like 2 hours before my appt to get the splints removed? And is there anything else I can do beforehand to make the removal less painful? I'm not a wimp, this surgery hurts extremely bad and only those who have actually had it truly understand how painful it is. I just have been dreading this appt Monday for the last couple days and I really want the pain to be minimal, whats your advice?

Actually, getting my splints out was painless. The doctor sat me in a chair, warned me to be very still and snipped the stitches. Then he gently pulled the splint out. Then he did the other side.

I just had a nose job..?

Yesterday morning I had a nose job and I know that it's normal to have some bleeding in my nose for the first day or two, but is it normal if I'm coughing up a lot of blood. I'm assuming it's due to everything being connected to each other. Another thing is since it was just a minor procedure, how long do you think I will have to keep the splint on my nose?

your plastic surgeon should have left you a number where he could be reached in the event of an emergency. try calling it and asking him what he thinks and if you should go to the er.

sometimes it might seem like we're seeing alot of blood when we're really not. if you've coughed up more than what you think is 1/2 cup-then i would go to the er.

hey send me an e-mail, please i just wanna know how much it cost you, because my friend is trying to get a nose job too, and he wants to know a lot because he is scare.
please tell me what it felt like and all, thanks, I'll appreciate it

a very important nose job question? Please answer honestly? ?

I had a nose job couple of days ago and i have a splint on my nose. My nose was stuffed with dry blood and I used a wet paper towel and q-tips to "scrape" off the blood inside the edge of my nose. I didn't go too deep, just the bottom edge. Will this affect the shape of the nose? I did not put any pressure on my nose when i slept. I slept facing up on my couch. The only concern is i feel when i look at my nose, something is wrong....like the shape of the bottom nostril. Or am i being paranoid??????? I feel like my nostril is tilted or something. Is it just paranoia? I hope i didnt damage my nose when i was cleaning out the dry blood inside it. How vulnerable is my nose during the fist week.

You just had an operation. You need to allow time for any swelling to go down.
In the meantime, LEAVE YOUR NOSE ALONE!
If you're really worried, call your surgeon.
Good luck with your "new" nose!

why dont you ask your surgeon this...i wonder if ppl over will know

how long does a deviated septum surgery take?

From your first initial visit to the doctor, to you being fully healed and without the splints in your nose; how long does this all take?

Also, how much does septoplasty cost and does insurance cover it?

My suggestion is trying to absorb as much information as you can before making up your mind, here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insur ance.htm is a good one.

dont do cocaine

is it okay to PICK ur Nose after a nose surgery (rhinoplasty)? ?

This is a serious question. Is it arright to pick your nose after a nose surgery? like when you still have the splint on. I have a dry blood clogged in my nose and the only way i can get it outta there is by picking it. did i endanger my nose by any chance??? please serious answers only.

I don't see why snot [ I mean not ]
