Sinusitis – Causes And Treatment | Tropical Diseases - Tropical ...
Sinusitis is an acute or chronic disease caused by swelling of nasal and sinus inflammation. The passages create inflated nasal obstruction and nasal discharge can not be evicted; of infection at the time displayed.
A sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, can cause much pain. It is the result of inflammation of nasal or sinus or both. When someone has a sinus infection there are several symptoms that will help them recognize that this is what he or she suffered.Sinusitis is often accompanied by feelings of tenderness or pressure around the nose, eyes, cheeks and forehead. Sometimes it is accompanied by the pain of headaches. If you have a sinus infection you may also have a cough, fever or congestion resulting in discharge of your nose. A sinus infection can appear suddenly and then leave after proper treatment, a few weeks, or it may be a chronic problem which lasts more than eight weeks at a time with at least four accidents per year. Curiously most cases of chronic sinusitis, are in nature.
The main causes of sinusitis are swollen sinuses occur mostly in people with asthma or allergies, as chronic sinusitis or infection, and after a bad cold. Smoking and swimming can also cause inflammation of the sinuses. Use to much or too often nasal decongestants may induce an opposite effect with swollen sinuses.
There are several ways to treat chronic sinusitis. Decongestants, antibiotics and other forms of oral medication can be given. Some doctors drain the mucosa of the nose with saline and a syringe.Surgery is the last option which is made only when other options do not work. The infected mucosa is then removed surgically. This type of surgery may be done under local or general anesthesia.
Sinusitis pain have different characteristics depending on the sinus involved, a general type of pain is one that comes up in the morning when you get out of bed. Pain caused by bending the head forward are specific to frontal sinusitis, pain in upper teeth, upper jaw and cheeks are signs of maxillary sinus infection.Ethmoid sinusitis causes pain between the eyes and swollen eyelids, loss of smell and nose without air. Infection of the sphenoid sinus is a rare condition and provides the deepest pain in the head, earaches and neck pain....

4 months has congestion and cough after five days of damp. Clear to yellow discharge from nose. The baby is breastfed and his power has diminished. He still has at least 6 wet diapers per day. It weighs 15lbs14oz and is within 75%. Baby not as active and is fussier. He also had a bloody discharge from the nose last night and a bit tonight. He did not get tested for RSV, three days ago and it was negative. Could it have developed RSV or puenomia or worse. It was really bad on Sunday and almost cried all day because it was so crowded he could not sleep because he is a nose breather.Yesterday, he seemed a little better and today he seems almost the same and perhaps a little worse.
Dear XXXXXXXXXXX:
As you indicate, that young babies are naturally programmed to breathe through the nose to allow breastfeeding, so that any nasal congestion can make quite fussy and decrease food intake (try to drink something with your nose pinched closed to understand). The bloody nasal discharge may be due to excessive dryness or swelling of the nasal mucosa / structures, which may be aggravated by aspiration with an aggressive nasal tip long bulb.Fortunately, an RSV test was negative, and you do not mention other symptoms that make me think of pneumonia or severe infection (eg, call your doctor or visit an emergency room for temperature above degrees Fahrenheit 100.4, especially beyond 48 hours or at / above 104 degrees Fahrenheit, the yellow-green phlegm, productive cough, respiratory rate 50 breaths per minute by counting amounts chest breath sounds coarse or extra work of breathing, for example, Nostril flaring or retractions, the latter sinking deep below the rib cage or neck area, just above the midline clavicles; pale or bluish skin, reduced power to the 'failure to urinate well at least once every 8 hours, confusion, inconsolable irritability, or lethargy difficult to Rouse).
I advise adequate hydration (eg, No more milk and / or consumption formula to urinate well at least once every 8 hours), a cool mist humidifier by the bed (add 1 drop of bleach to water for the humidifier prevent mold growth and may be 1 drop of lemon juice for flavor; brief shower steam may be OK, but do not use a spray / hot steam as it may make breathing difficult or worsen nasal congestion, the excessive heat, more moisture can cause nosebleeds in some children), nasal saline 10-30 seconds before short-tipped bulb suction (flow before and bedtime) for nasal congestion or runny nose and with adequate rest terms of sleep increased to 30 degrees (egHe would say that you have a wedge under the mattress for cot). Note that menthol products are not informed below the age of 2 years and it has been shown to cause respiratory distress (eg, swelling of the airways of the lungs and obstruction by the mucus, especially with menthol placed near or in the nose) (eg, adult Vicks Vaporub is prohibited, but baby has no Vicks menthol and may be used for children 3 months and up - to Note that the main effect rubs scented plug-Aromatherapy is basically humidifying the air, cool humidifier to make this work). The FDA (U.S.Food & Drug Administration) does not recommend using over-the-counter cough and cold under the age of 4 years due to problems of inefficiency and side effects, particularly among infants, where fatal overdoses have occurred. Acetaminophen (eg Tylenol) may be used to treat pain or fever, but this drug has little or no benefit for other symptoms of cold (dose based on weight, if possible ). If it is a viral disease, or on-the-remedies against the-counter cough or cold prescription / or antibiotics cure - the immune system is what allows viral infections, usually within 3 weeks a cold.If symptoms persist beyond three weeks or worsens, seek medical evaluation....
FAQ: Can my cat catch my cold?
I have a 9 month old cat So far she seems pretty healthy and up to date on her vaccinations. But my question is (and I haven't seen it addressed anywhere), right now I'm sick with a cold As other humans can, are cats able to catch colds/the flu from humans too? I wouldn't want this to cause any problems for her. If you could answer this I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Ordinarily, the definition of zoonotic diseases are those which can be transmitted from animals to humans, and not the other way around. Historically, there have been very few exceptions. Two that come to mind are ringworm and conjunctivitis (commonly called "pinkeye.")
In 2009, however, a notable exception has been added: the H1N1 virus, sometimes called the "2009 Swine Flu" virus. To date, there have been approximately 10 documented cases of domestic cats with H1N1, and up to four cases (one tested positive) of H1N1 in Cheetahs in a Southern California private zoo. All of these cases are believed to having been transmitted by human family members (the Cheetahs by the zookeeper.) You can read more with my Q&A article on H1N1 and Cats .
Should you get H1N1, the best precautions against spreading it to other humans or cats are: Stay in bed during the early days of the flu, and keep the cats out of the bedroom. You should not have direct contact with your cats until 24 hours after your temperature has returned to normal. Cough or sneeze into a tissue, then fold the tissue and discard it in a trash container. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water immediately after coughing or sneezing, and before preparing food for your family, including your cats. Watch for symptoms of H1N1 in your cats and take them to the veterinarian at the first sign of symptoms.
The last precaution is extremely important. Mary G., the owner of the last documented cat with H1N1 reported that the main reason her cat, Maddie, had such a mild case of H1N1 is because...
Why does my rabbit have yellow green discharge coming from her nose?
My rabbit has a low flow liner greenish yellow lining of his nose. Also, it's not as contractions. Shes not as Jumpy either. I'm worried, and I wonder if I am responding.
Respiratory diseases require treatment by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
If your rabbit is not moving around much, she may have had difficulty breathing. Rabbits hide their illness so when they start looking ill and not happy, then they are really sick. Take her to the vet today!

Clear yellow discharge from puppies nose?
My dog delivered 12 puppies last night. Today one puppy had yellow discharge coming out it's nose and died. Is this an infection or did the mother crush him? This litter was unplanned, and I had no idea she was pregnant until pups were born. She is a very nervous mother and I am doing the best I can to watch her but I also have a newborn I am feeding. I just would like to know if this is an infection or if it is an injury. Please, no nasty responses, I am not a breeder. This was my daughters pet and we had not had the chance to fix her before the baby was born. I will be having her spayed, so please keep any rants to yourself. Thank you for any help or advice.
Please take these dogs to the vet - when my dog had a discharge from the nose (years ago when I was a child) - it was distemper. If it is distemper - your home and property will be quarantined from having pets for one year - it take that long for the virus to die in the ground, vegetation, and furniture.
What I would do would be to crush some vitamin C and folic acid pills( not chewable, so they won't have sugar in them) and mix it in with the mother's water and food supply. It will help boost any lowered immune systems without hurting the dog. Any extra should get peed right out!

My 2 horses have a yellow discharge coming from there nose?
I have 2 horses who have a yellow discharge coming from there nostrils , one of the horses is a 6yr old and he has it coming from both nostrils and the other is a yearling that i just noticed has a little starting to come from one nostril. they both have a normal temp, 99.7 and 101.4 . both the horses were just at a horse show about 1 week ago so idk if they picked up something there or what? right now the yellow discharge is the only symptom they have. otherwise there fine.
Hope someone can help..... Thank You very much!!!
i thought i should add that the weather did just change but idk if it has anything to do with this or not.
it is the weather. my horses are getting this and do get this going on every year when it starts to get cold. normal temps no coughing you are good to go. my horses mostly have it in the morning then when they are out during the day it clears than next morning same thing. just got to get readjusted to the cold. good luck
My cat has a yellow mucus/discharge coming out of its nose wat is it?
I recently aquired it from the shelter and i think its because my a/c is too cold. The last couple of days i turned off my a/c and i noticed some improvments in my cat. It didn't sneeze as much.
I didn't take it to the vet and i think the yellow stuff has disappeared..Like no more is coming out.
He's got an upper respiratory infection. This can get serious for cats, take him to the vet to get antibiotics. It won't just pass if you wait, it will only get worse and she may die.
My 8 yrs old son's nose running continuously. Thick greenish yellow discharge come out. What is the remedy?
I have got him treatment with an e&t doctor. but could not be cured.
The colour of your son's discharge does indicate an infection, however many children suffer constantly with a `running' nose and unpleasant mucus discharge without any serious discomfort or health problems.
You don't say what form of treatment you obtained but perhaps it's time he visited the doctor again?
There is no cure for infections such as this, everyone gets them throughout their lives, unfortunately it's worrying when in a child.
Go back to your doctor and seek advice on possible antibiotics.
yellow discharge?
I am 14.3 weeks pregnant and since2 days I have observed green-yellow discharge, just like when children wipe their nose after flu. I had called my ob and she took the culture and checked for any vaginal infection and result was negative. A week ago I was treated with bladder infection anti biotic. Also from 4 days I was suffering from a continious headache. but according to dr that is normal . I amm just very worried, has any one experienced any thing like this? any discharge?
Its really gross but in my pregnancies you get all sorts off odd discharges. If you went to your doctor and she cultured it and said nothing was wrong it is probably just the normal discharge you have while pregnant. But if it gets worse and more frequent i would defiantly check back with your doc..good luck
i get stuffy runny nose sinus infections a lot and i notice when i do i seem to have this yellow discharge its
kinda like the discharge you get when your fertile the same egg white consistency but has a yellow color. like snot. is it because im sick. or what
It's the sinus infection that causes that. If you have a lot of sinus infections, get evaluated by a doctor. You could have something like sinus polyps that can cause you to be at high risk for sinus infections.
Why is there yellow discharge coming from my male puppy's private area??
My boyfriend got a pit bull last night from a breeder (Don't need to be lectured) he is about 5 months old. This morning when we were getting my puppy (a 5 month old pomeranian/papillon mix, male) and my bf's puppy into the car to go to petco, i noticed some yellow discharge coming out of the hole that he pees!! What does this mean?? And his nose is dry also... please help me.
No it was not pee, it looked like discharge like if you pierced something and it'd come out in a white/yellow color. He also had an accident at petco and he peed A LOT and was clear white, i don't even know if it's normal haha.
Normally it is white discharge. If he isn't neutered, then it could possibly be sperm but you might still want to get him checked by the Vet. Some dogs have dry nose like my dogs. Sometimes, not all the time. It does not mean they're sick. But while you add it when you're at the Vet's, get his nose checked & get him neutered.
yellow discharge in late pregnancy?

Discharge from Lab's nose?
Hello-
My yellow lab has canine influenza or some other type of virus. He is getting better, however, the discharge, snot, coming from his nose has a brown tint to it. Is this normal?
Take that dog to the vet. A brown discharge could be blood and you won't find a good answer here for that or any other real health problem. Vet's see all kind's of problem's and can repair or cure most all of them. Please go asap and relieve whatever suffering the dog is experiencing.Good luck.
***Yellow Runny Nose???Cold???***?

(repost) 28 weeks pregnant & cramps followed by yellow mucus discharge?
I was at work and had cramps in my left side down to my pelvic area, it was around where the baby was laying. I stood up and felt really wet down there and still had the cramps when I was walking around but then they went away. I went to the bathroom and there was quite a lot of yellow mucusy discharge that looked like what comes out of your nose when you blow your nose and you're sick. Should I contact my doctor or is it normal?
Your mucus plug can be yellow, white, or bloody.. You can lose your mucus plug early and your body just makes another one basically. You could have some kind of infection.. I would probably call your dr. to get checked out.. I had alot of discharge around 28 weeks but it was like whitish.. and when i lost my mucus plug with my first baby it wasn't bloody at all just barely yellow...and until you get to the dr i wouldn't take a bath or have sex.. cause if it was your mucus plug you could get an infection.
light yellow discharge?
I've been taking birth control pills since I was 12 for estrogen because I use to have childhood cancer...I'm 23 now and I'm married...I recently asked my doctor if I could stop taking them so that I can try and have a baby with my husband. They told me to stop taking it about 2 mths ago and I got my period on my own for the last 2 months...I usually get alot of discharge..and this month I didnt get my period but I got alot of discharge and recently I noticed that I"m gettin some yellow discharge. I have a stuffy nose right now so I can't smell it and I can't be pregnant because my husband has been in iraq for the last 10mths....could this be cause of the bc pills? I havent been sexual active ever since I stopped the pills. I havent had my period for this month yet and i've been having my period and the begining and end of te mth....
theres no itching or burning feeling...I feel fine, besides a stuffy nose full of snot and some coughing...no fever
in most cases yellow discharge is a symptom of vaginal infection - you better check it in Discharge Evaluation - see below
How can I cure a barn cats cold?
He has yellow nose discharge, heavy breathing sometimes and sneezes a lot.
I am not sure if I can get the cat to a vet- the barns main concern is not have mice etc. any ideas of ways to help cat not involving vet?
Cats don't get colds. The common cold is caused by the Rhinovirus which only affects humans. Cats get respiratory infections that need a course of antibiotics to cure. See your vet. Respiratory infections and quite contagious among cats so treat me ASAP or any other cats you have may end up as sick as he is and needing meds as well.
Hide them inside some nice tasty food
My Maltese puppy is sneezing a yellow discharge, can somebody pls give me some advise?
I have a 9 and a half week old maltese puppy, that has developed which seems like a chest cold, everytime he sneezes a yellow discharge comes out of his nose, He has quite bad attacks of snizzing were he actually cant breath properly. The problem is that I live in the northern parts of Mozambique where there is no Vet available. I got a friend of mine to contact a friend of hers whom is a Vet and she suggested that I give the puppy Amoxycillin Antibiotic 125mg about 1.5mls twice a day for the next 6 days.
I started the antibiotic on monday night but am still very concerned as the antibiotic is for babies and not puppies, can somebody please help??
Bela
Amoxycillin is commonly used to treat both humans and animals.
just keep using the antibiotic as prescribed, for the whole duration of time, and do not miss any doses, and be sure your dog has access to lots of fresh water.
rest, water and food are what is usually prescribed for animals with this kind of upper respiratory infections.
be sure to keep your puppy away from other animals and humans during this period of time, as his immune is compromised, being ill and on antibiotics.
If he not improved by the end of his antibiotics, seek more help, as he may need another round or two to clear up this infection.
depending on the severity, and what kind of infection, it may take a while longer for his illness to clear up.
I wish you luck, and hope he feels better.
always remember to seek professional help, because we all love our pets.
Are women supposed to have discharge from their vagina?
i know periods have discharge. also when a woman squirts.
but what about a daily discharge that looks like snot in your nose. like its clear with a little white, its doesn't smell and its not green or yellow.
is this normal a clear like snot discharge that is daily?
i am not having sex- i haven't ever had sex.
i also don't have an std.
i dont have an itch. its just normal discharge.
Glands inside your vagina and cervix make small amounts of fluid. This fluid flows out of the vagina each day, carrying out old cells that have lined the vagina. This is your body's way of keeping your vagina healthy and clean. The discharge is usually clear or milky and doesn't smell bad.
The color and thickness of the discharge change with your monthly cycle. The discharge is thicker when you ovulate (when one of your ovaries releases an egg), when a woman is breastfeeding or when a woman is sexually excited.
Changes that may signal a problem include an increase in the amount of discharge, a change in the color or smell of the discharge, and irritation, itchiness or burning in or around your vagina. This is called vaginitis. A discharge that's stained with blood when you're not having your period could also be a sign of a problem. Some other types of infections such as yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis can also cause discharge that is usually accompanied by odor such as beer/yeast/fish.
I would recommend that if you have any of these signs or any concerns regarding this you consult with your doctor for a proper diagnosis and for proper treatment should you have anything other than just a normal vaginal discharge.
Good luck :)
What would cause a large mucusy discharge from my eye?
I have a slight cold, some sniffles and coughs so I went to blow my nose a little while ago and when I was blowing, the corner of my eye started to feel weird then all of a sudden a rather large mucusy yellow/green wad emerged from my eye and just hung there. After I noticed this, I stopped blowing and the discharge went back into my eye. Is this normal?, I know this has never happened to me at least. And should I be worried?
I was thinking that it might have something to do with your sinuses, since the maxillary sinus cavity is right under your eye. I say this because I remember some guy was able to shoot milk out of his eye, so I know that there is a way for stuff to get through there. So, perhaps it was just a lot of pressure when you were blowing your nose, and mucus escaped through the eye. Just my guess
You should probably go to the doctor just to be safe.
What does a Yellow/Orange watery mucus discharge mean?
I got this recently, when I woke up I thought I had a nose bleed so i went to go get some tissue. As I checked I saw the tissue had absorbed a yellow watery fluid, the tissue was white so theres no mistaking what I saw. I had a cold a week ago, I though maybe it was just a sinus discharge, but im still curious and worried. I saw some other people have had this happend so at least I know im not alone, but I would like to know what it is and what causes it.
Thank you for any help.
Sounds like a sinus infection. You need to see your doctor right away so he/she can prescribe some antibiotics.
